Through partnership with LifeGate, Findus continues to support initiatives to protect marine ecosystems: including the recent launch of Aqualis, an innovative device that collects floating waste in the Marina di Pescara Port. In collaboration with One Ocean Foundation, Findus contributes to the restoration of Posidonia oceanica meadows in the Mediterranean, including a planting initiative recently completed in Sardinia (Cala di Volpe). ROME, Italy – 11 June, 2026 – At a time when the vulnerability of marine ecosystems is increasingly evident, Findus Italy, a leader in frozen food and a key player in the frozen fish sector, reaffirms its commitment to protecting oceans and marine resources. The Company has implemented a programme of initiatives to promote responsible fishing and aquaculture practices and the protection of marine biodiversity. Findus’ long-term, structured commitment to sustainability is underscored by the fact that 100% of its fish portfolio is certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) or Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC). This journey reaches a new milestone through the launch of MSC-certified Findus Argentine Prawns. This not only marks a step forward in the company's sustainability efforts but also reinforces Findus' position as a market leader in frozen fish, with over 23,000 tonnes sold (20% market share), representing €338 million[1]. "The health of the oceans and the protection of their resources are responsibilities we see as particularly our own, as a leader in the frozen fish category," says Alessandro Solazzi, Marketing Director Southern Europe at Findus. "For years, we have been driving tangible initiatives to protect the oceans, guided by the belief that quality and sustainability must go hand in hand. The launch of MSC-certified Argentine Prawns marks the latest step in building an increasingly responsible seafood supply chain. This is an important milestone, requiring significant commitment across the value chain - from sourcing certified raw materials to ensuring strict traceability and sustainability standards. We aim to continue to set the benchmark for the sector, promoting responsible and sustainable growth across the frozen fish industry, while offering consumers products that combine quality, convenience and responsibility". The path to an increasingly responsible supply chain The launch of the new Findus Argentine Prawns comes within a growing segment of increasing importance in Italian consumption habits. In 2025, the frozen prawn category reached a value of €128 million (+7.5% year-on-year) and exceeded 8,500 tonnes sold (+3.5%)[2], proving itself as a dynamic and healthy sub-segment. Sourced from the south-western Atlantic Ocean, Findus Argentine Prawns are carefully selected, cleaned and frozen to preserve quality and flavour. Already shelled and deveined, they provide a practical and versatile solution for consumers, without compromising on responsible sourcing. Findus was already the first company in Italy (November 2025) to offer MSC-certified Argentine prawns, reinforcing its pioneering role in seafood sustainability. MSC certification guarantees that the product comes from fishing activities that are managed according to environmental criteria to protect fish stocks, limiting impact on marine ecosystems and ensuring traceability throughout the supply chain. "The MSC's role is to provide a science-based framework and independent verification, supporting fisheries that choose to become more sustainable," comments Paola Guglielmo, Head of Corporate Relations for the Marine Stewardship Council Italy. "This certification reflects over a decade of work. Fisheries are productive but complex to manage because they operate under different administrative regimes and require sound science to deal with variability and uncertainty. Building a management system that meets rigorous international standards requires perseverance and collaboration. The lesson is clear: when there is a shared vision and expectations are transparent and clear, progress accelerates." Combating plastic pollution: LifeGate partnership Sustainability is deeply rooted in Findus' DNA, and its commitment to sustainably sourced raw materials is part of a long-term strategy, through ocean protection initiatives developed with strategic partners. Findus is part of the LifeGate Water Defenders Alliance, an alliance that unites businesses, institutions, ports, citizens, and scientific and technological researchers to protect waterways. Since 2021, Findus has adopted several Seabins that have captured over 45.3 tonnes of waste from Italian seas, including plastics and microplastics up to 2mm in diameter – equivalent to over 3 million 500ml plastic bottles. In recent weeks, Findus supported the launch of Aqualis, an innovative device installed in the Marina di Pescara Tourist Port, in collaboration with Aquageo and with scientific contribution from the University "G. d'Annunzio" of Chieti-Pescara. Designed and manufactured in Italy, Aqualis is a technological system capable of intercepting floating waste, including plastics and microplastics up to 1.6mm in diameter, as well as oils and hydrocarbons present on the water surface. The device can collect up to 500kg of floating waste and up to 800kg of oils and hydrocarbons per year. "Findus has been a member of the Water Defenders Alliance for several years, advocating for measurable solutions to protect our oceans from plastic pollution," says Lajal Andreoletti, LifeGate Impact Project Manager. “This new activation demonstrates how technological innovation, scientific research and collaboration between the public and private sectors can come together to reduce pollution and raise awareness on an increasingly urgent issue". Restoring Posidonia Oceanica with One Ocean Foundation Findus also plays an active role in the conservation of Posidonia oceanica meadows through the "Blue Forest" project led by the One Ocean Foundation. The initiative aims to restore and protect marine forests of Posidonia oceanica—an aquatic plant endemic to the Mediterranean—which is vital for marine biodiversity, coastal protection, and climate change mitigation. Following earlier restoration of 155 m² in Liguria, a new project has just been completed in Sardinia, in the Cala di Volpe area, restoring an additional 50 m² of Posidonia oceanica. One Ocean Foundation also monitors the restored areas, with marine biologists tracking the evolution of the meadows and assessing their growth, ensuring an scientifically robust approach and measurable long-term impact. - ENDS - About Findus Findus is a leader in the frozen food sector and part of the Nomad Foods group, with some of the best known and loved frozen products in Italy.
